PostSubject: my quest for 800 whp   Sun Nov 27, 2011 8:56 pm

alright well im new to the game and have no experience with the sr20det motor what so ever. I know the sr20 motor is a closed deck ( ports for coolant) motor unlike the honda motors that are open deck (coolant flows around cylinder sleeves and the block itself.

now i am sorta on a budget for a engine for relatively cheap and am most likely going to build it. i would like to know how much power can be made on stock sleeves. i of course am going to go with after market pitstons and rods.

also i was wondering what rod bearings have prooven to be very pullet proof.

thanks

no reason to do a SR20 at that point what soever at all.

it will need to be FULLY built (head/cams/rods/pistons maybe even a stroker kit) not to mention the fuel/clutch/ 65+mm turbo etc. to run anywhere near that.

I would say go with a 2JZGTE with headworks/cams and a decent single turbo on e85 you could do it. or do a LSX motor with a 76mm and the car will make that no problem. no reason to start with one of the smallest motors to do it.

you aren't going to get 800whp for 10k. not while buying a car and building it from scratch.

cheap
reliable
fast

pick two^

wow....haters already. yeah my 800 goal is high, but im not asking your opinion on whether i should try and get 800whp, im asking whether i need to sleeve the block in order to achieve this goal. if so i am going to go another route. Im new to this site, but i am not new to what 4 cylinders can do power wise. there are hondas out there making 1000hp (outlaw fwd). This isnt a 4 week build. i have however long it takes to get it where i want it and if i go over budget o well. so if you could help me out i would appreciate it.

just cause i dont wanna buy your stock sr20 with bolt ons for 10,000. dont come on here bashing on my goals

actually that is where you are wrong. you can get a JDM 2JZGTE for about $2000 shipped, which is about the same price as a SR20DET is now a days. Mount kit/wiring/drift shaft is about $800-1000. Single turbo kit setup 3k. E85 fuel system 2k. etc etc.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] check that guy's car out. that WAS a 700WHP SR. he has since downtuned it in to the 500 do to this thing called powerband, or lack there of.

I know of many 500+WHP Honda's out there. honestly the B16/B18/K20 has alot more full blown drag support then the SR20/CA18/Etc. has. do to the fact the 240sx is a RWD car and you can put pretty much ANY motor in it. Maybe you should build a B18 powered 240sx. or Keep in the Honda scene. cause there aren't very many 700+ HP SR20's cause anyone who has that much cash and wants a car THAT fast, does a Turbo V8 or a 2JZ / RB2X

Wasn't the issue with the older Honda engines that they spun the wrong way?
Everyone knows the RB26 is the coolest engine. pirat

If I redid it, and was able to fool myself that building an over powered car was worth doing, I'd build a 1JZ RS13.

If its so easy to do this why do I see numerous people talking about pushing in their firewall, using the GTE subframe, if its as easy as your saying please point me in the right direction to find a wiring harness and other parts to make this a plug and play setup

More than likely you will have to resleeve the motor if you get to that HP level. If you want a 4 banger that can produce that much power reliably would be a ecotec, zetec or the duratec. With the ecotec Chevy even has a guide to build the motor to the HP you want. I am not bashing your hopes to get an Sr to that level of power just putting my .02 in

i made a huge 2JZGTE swap thread on here in the tech section.

there are a ton of swap kits from $200-$1500. that dont require ANY hammers to fit, unlike LSX/RB swaps.

you too said you're new. we aren't being rude, just take advice from people who know it. thats like me going on honda-tech and saying i want to build a D16Vtec to 800whp. people are going to give me better suggestions, because they have been through it.

The hammering was minimal on my swap... I've done more punishment on single moms than I did on my firewall.

Don't hate. That's technically why we're here, isn't it? To answer questions...

It won't take long to realize this goal is ridiculous for an sr.
