PostSubject: My solution to having no headroom in my S14.    Tue Jan 17, 2012 11:08 am

Yeah, not the first guy to have this problem. My sunroof makes it worlds worse. My hair touches the damn headliner when I drive my car. Wearing a helmet is a nightmare. I have tried a few times to get my drivers seat lower without much success. I finally decided to bite the bullet and deal with it once and for all..

I am obviously not finished yet but it's a good start.

Not much. Exhaust isn't bolted up yet but a quick check says around an inch. No cat BTW. That's a resonator.

Keeping the 350z seats. I stripped the drivers one down to the skeleton. I am going to use universal sliders from summit so I gotta wait for those then build mounting points. Then prime/seam seal/undercoat. It will be a good week before there is a seat in there I would guess.

Thanks Liz. The Summit sliders are out for sure. They only move about 5" and are super short. Not a good fit for what I need. Looks like jeep YJ rails may work perfectly. They look exactly like sparco/omp rails. I am going to look at the S13 rail I have again to see if I want to try to make em work.

I am really regretting modifying the oem z33 seat rails now. Oh well.

Yeah, it was pretty damn easy honestly. Too bad I ran out of gas on Saturday afternoon and had to wait until Monday to get another tank. D'oh.

As for actual real world gained space. I don't know until I get the seat mounted. That flat part that drops down from the top of the tunnel to the flattened floor is a few inches if memory serves. I never did measure it.

I am going to tinker with it tonight, I will see how low I think I can go. If I could live without a seat slider it would be insanely low.

Actually looks like I may pick up a few inches of room. I actually sat the seat frame in the car with the seat cushion and I was so low it was uncomfortable from a visibility standpoint. I was pissed that I hacked up the oem z33 rails because they would have put the seat even lower, but it appears you can end up too low.
